Alien vs. Predator was released in North America on August 13, 2004 in 3,395 theaters.  The film grossed $38.2 million over its opening weekend for an average of $11,278 per theater, and was number one at the box office.

In one of the big action scenes from 20th Century Fox’s double-creature feature “Alien vs. Predator,” opening Friday, Danish-born actor Carsten Norgaard broke a rib while filming in Prague while doing battle with the 8-foot-tall Predator. “When you’re in a blizzard fighting a monster like that, things can go wrong,” the 41-year-old Norgaard said. “We took about a 15-minute recess, and then we continued working. I ended up working like six or seven more hours that day.  I was in serious pain.
